St Edward’s
OXFORD
St Edward’s is a leading, co-educational
boarding and day school situated in
Oxford, a thriving international city.
At St Edward’s, the emphasis is firmly on
engagement and participation. All pupils
are expected to work consistently hard in
their academic studies and to do so with
real belief in their ability to achieve. They
are also encouraged to take advantage
of
the
countless
extra-curricular
opportunities on offer and to participate
fully in the wider life of the school.
Schools Ethos
The school’s ethos and character are
defined by the conviction that those pupils
who derive real joy and satisfaction from a
wide range of activities and achievements
outside the classroom are those who go
on to perform exceptionally well in their
academic work.
Academic Profile
Academic endeavor lies at the heart of
St Edward’s. Pupils are expected to work
hard, to take responsibility for their own
learning and to make the most of the
myriad opportunities open to them for
broadening their intellectual horizons.
The school offers GCSE, A Level with the
Extended Project and the IB Diploma.

At 13+, St Edward’s offers the following
scholarships: Academic, Sport, Music, All
Rounder, Art, Dance and Drama. At 16+,
Academic, Sport, Music, Art, Dance and
Drama.
Accommodation

Boarding and day pupils are based in
one of 12 houses, five for girls, seven for
boys. For overseas pupils, St Edward’s full
boarding model ensures that the school is
as busy and engaging at weekends as it is
during the week.
Facilities
St Edward’s boasts a 100-acre estate
complete with some 15 sports fields, two
astro-turf pitches, two cricket pavilions,
all-weather netball and tennis courts, a
riverside boathouse at Godstow and a six-
hole golf course. It features a 25-metre
pool, squash and indoor tennis courts and
the very latest in commercial gym, fitness
and spinning facilities. The school also
owns and manages a professional arts
centre, The North Wall, which in addition
to being the heart and home of the
school’s drama and dance activities, offers
a highly-regarded public programme.

UK is impractical.

University destinations:
Top 10 destinations: Bristol, London
(University, King’s and Imperial Colleges),
Newcastle, Durham, Exeter, Leeds,
Manchester, Birmingham, Warwick and
Oxford.
Oxbridge results
A number of pupils each year are
offered places at Oxford and Cambridge
Universities and at Ivy League institutions
in America.
Language support:

We assess pupils with EAL when they sit
their entrance test. About half a dozen
new lower school pupils per year are
given EAL support instead of a timetabled
subject, some just in the Shell year, some
up to GCSE. Fourth form EAL pupils take
the IGCSE in ESL. A few sixth form pupils
also have a one to one lesson each week
and those who arrive without a GCSE in
English Language do the IELTS exam. The
department liaises closely with the English
department in particular.
