St Clare’s
OXFORD
St Clare’s is an international college
founded in 1953 with a mission ‘To
advance international education and
understanding,’ something it has been
doing successfully ever since. The
College embraces internationalism and
academic excellence as core values. It is a
coeducational day and residential college
which has been offering the International
Baccalaureate Diploma for over thirty-five
years, longer than any other school or
college in England. Students at St. Clare’s
have had the best sixth-form results in
Oxfordshire for the last two years.
Students from over 44 countries study
at St Clare’s including British students.
The atmosphere is informal and friendly
with an equal emphasis on hard work and
developing personal responsibility. Each
student has a Personal Tutor who overseas
welfare and progress.
Most students are enrolled for the full IB
Diploma. St Clare’s has an especially wide
range of subjects on offer at Higher and
Standard level and, in addition, currently
teaches 25 different languages. The
College takes a small number of transfer
students each year. For students not
ready to begin the IB Diploma, a Pre-IB
course is offered with regular entry points
throughout the year. There is an extensive
programme of social, cultural and sporting
activities and students are encouraged to
take full advantage of the opportunities
that Oxford provides.
The College also runs a highly successful IB
Institute providing introductory, refresher
and revision courses for students. St Clare’s
is also authorised to run IB workshops for
both new and experienced teachers in co-
operation with the IBO.
St Clare’s is located in the beautiful North
Oxford Conservation Area. It occupies 28
large Victorian and Edwardian houses to
which purpose-built facilities have been
added. These include a beautiful library
building with over 35,000 volumes, an IT
suite and a Careers and Higher Education
Information
Centre,
four
science
laboratories, art and music studios, dining
room and the popular Sugar House café.
Students live in College houses close
to the central campus under the care of
residential staff.
The College welcomes applications from
students irrespective of gender, race,
colour, religious belief or national origin.
Entry is based on academic results,
interview and confidential school report.
There is a competitive scholarship
and bursary programme awarded
by examination, interview and group
exercises.
St Clare’s had a highly successful ISI
inspection in March 2008; the full Report
can be accessed via the College website
as can the College’s excellent 2014
examination results.
St Clare’s has been top of the Government
Performance Tables for Oxfordshire for
the last four years and ranked 8 out of all
UK schools.
