Kingswood School
BATH
All Round Education
The education at Kingswood looks
beyond the classroom in order to develop
enquiring minds and a passion for learning.
Music, Drama Sport and the Arts are all
important aspects at Kingswood and
pupils are encouraged to take up interests
and to develop talents in many other
areas as well as their academic profiles.
The extensive extra-curricular programme
provides a wealth of opportunity in which
leadership, mentoring, physical and
mental development all have a purpose.
Pupils are genuinely prepared for the
wider world as young adults – filled with
confidence and compassion so that they
can really make a difference and become
the leaders of tomorrow.
Sixth Form
Students at Kingswood have the
advantage of separate Sixth Form
Centre within the campus. This provides
them with an introduction to a style of
independent learning which will equip
them well for University study. The Dixon
Building has individual studies, a common
room, IT suite and Careers Centre.
Students are also given special duties
and privileges and take an active part in
the running of the School as mentors and
leaders of younger year groups. Guidance
with career choices, specialist lecture
programmes and work experience are all
part of the excellent support provided to
ensure that Sixth Form students reach
their true potential in every way.
University Destinations
Kingswood students will normally be
joining one of the Russell Group of
Universities in the UK. Some will take
up specialist degree courses in music
or the arts. A small number may enter
Universities overseas.
Oxbridge Results
Each year 6-8 students will achieve
Oxbridge places. Over 90% will attend
their first choice University.
Language Support
The EAL Department is situated within the
English teaching area of Kingswood and
is very much a part of the main school
campus. Pupils will be provided with the
appropriate level of English support as
determined by the results of their entrance
assessments. There are additional fees for
English support to International students
and charged as required by the needs of
the individual.
A Global Outlook
The community at Kingswood is enhanced
by including students from all around the
world. The School is a member of the
British Council. There are normally around
twenty different countries represented
within the school community. International
students are warmly welcomed and a
‘mentor’ pupil (often someone who will
speak their native language) is chosen to
help and assist them on arrival as part of
their familiarisation programme.
The breadth of culture and diverse
backgrounds of students from other
countries provide a truly ‘international’
flavour to the School and this allows
students to make enriching friendships
with a wide range of young people. There
is a policy of restricting the number of
places the School offers to students from
any one particular country within each
year group, so that the opportunity to
become fully integrated into the whole
school community and to experience a
British education is maximised.
