Kilgraston
PERTH, SCOTLAND
We are a school with traditional values but
a modern and forward looking perspective
on education. Education is not just about
exam success - developing interest and
talents, nurturing an understanding of
divergent cultures, and emphasising our
personal responsibility as global citizens
are vital. As such, a Kilgraston girl benefits
from a wealth of opportunities to extend
and enrich her educational experience.
Our founding traditions continue to
reinforce the values that lie at the heart
of our community: academic rigour, trust,
respect, integrity and responsibility.
We offer an enormous breadth of extra-
curricular activities, and enjoy modern,
state of the art facilities in sports, art,
music and science. We are home to
Scotland’s only school equestrian centre,
and girls of all ages and abilities ride and
compete regularly.
Academic Profile
Our girls will be the leaders of tomorrow
in a wide variety of professions and
businesses. We believe that there should
be no limitations on their ambitions either
personally or professionally, and we offer
a world class, exciting and challenging
education where it is natural to step into
leadership positions. Kilgraston students
go on to leading universities across the UK
and internationally.
Accommodation
From age 8, girls reside together in
small dormitories in ‘Butterstone’, our
youngest boarding house. From 13, each
girl is given her own study bedroom in
the Senior house, and sixth formers are
accommodated in the sixth form boarding
house, where they are awarded extra
independence commensurate with their
age.
Scottish Highers and Advanced Highers
Kilgraston girls study for Highers and
Advanced Higher qualifications. These
Scottish qualifications are widely
recognised and well-respected by
universities worldwide. In 2014, 95% of
our Advanced Higher grades were A-C
(against a national average of 81%).
Language Support
A specialist ESOL (English for Speakers
of Other Languages) department works
closely with international students
to support their learning. Each pupil
is individually assessed and receives
personal
support
alongside
their
mainstream studies.
Deputy Head Girl 2014, Sarah Anderson
“My initial and lasting impression of
Kilgraston will always be of an extremely
welcoming environment, keen to nurture
girls to fulfill their potential, as well as
discovering talents you never knew
existed. With the endless opportunities
it is impossible not to find something
you are good at at Kilgraston. Being part
of the school Madrigal Choir has helped
me as well as a number of the other girls
successfully audition for the National Girls,
and the National Youth Choirs of Scotland.
In this my final year before I apply to
Medical School I am thankful I had the
opportunity to complete my Duke of
Edinburgh and Caritas Awards, and
have the qualification from the London
Academy of Music and Dramatic Art
(LAMDA). There are so many events
throughout the year at Kilgraston that
bond the pupils and staff together into a
very close knit and fun loving community.
Kilgraston is a special place, so unique it is
difficult to make any comparison, it’s just
something you have to experience”.
